Hey Apple Team,
Please, here are the super-frustrating woes iOS / iPadOS musicians are currently experiencing due to your haphazard and silly design decisions -
Headphone Jack - your minimalism approach doesn't make sense in some cases. Like one mouse button for multiple functions, one jack for multiple functions... Separate tasks should be performed by separate modules rather than a single module performing multiple tasks - that would be like writing a single suboptimal function with spaghetti code to do many things. When you removed the headphone jack on iPads without offering an accessory to charge and listen simultaneously, the available 3rd party hubs that popped up in the market are mediocre with causing serious issues (including dead iPads) and do not work as expected. Please bring back the headphone jack - even the old 2.5" jack is fine - at least on iPad Pros. It is ok to remove the headphone jack on the iPhone but iPads are an exception. [REPORTED IN BUG TRACKER]
USB-C is flimsy and delicate due to its flawed design (to say the least) and we need to be always conscious of where the cord is dangling as we cannot easily move around freely or casually when the cord is plugged in. Please add an extra, sturdy jack like the Lightning port - at least on iPad Pro. [REPORTED IN BUG TRACKER]
Battery - Offer a bigger battery that runs 20+ hours. MacBooks used to run 3-4 hours while iPads run for 10 hours (3X). Now that Macs are running for 20 hours, you should be able to up the battery on iPads to at least 50-60 hours or more!
Battery level - Currently, battery level warning is displayed at 10% and 5%. Many times, we forget to plug in the power before it dies. Warn battery at 2% again. [REPORTED IN BUG TRACKER]
Pencil 2 - When paired with Pencil 2 if iPad Pro is shut down and turned on again, Pencil 2 loses connection with iPad and there is NO way to reconnect other than by docking it on the charging edge of iPad (even though Pencil 2 has 100% charge). This is a waste of a charge cycle to recharge it just for the purpose of pairing it back again! Pairing is also lost irretrievably when the iPad's battery dies or when Bluetooth is turned off! Instead, a double tap on the Pencil 2 should wake it up (if not paired) and re-pair it with the iPad without having to dock it on charging edge again which would be an optimal solution. This is a missing functionality of expected behavior which please enhance with firmware update or replacement or whatever. [REPORTED IN BUG TRACKER]
Music Memos - Add music Memos to GarageBand. Do not abandon the valuable Music Memos app. [REPORTED IN BUG TRACKER]
GarageBand Drummer - While playing back inside the Drummer, auto-highlight each region as it plays. It is pointless to be able to playback without highlighting each played region and needs pausing, tapping, playing, etc. which is frustrating. If played region is not highlighted, instruments and controls are not displayed at the bottom. [REPORTED IN BUG TRACKER]
Tablaist - Tabla is a very popular Indian percussion and has a vast usage in various genres (Bollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood, Mollywood, Fusion Music, etc). Please add Tablaist module to GarageBand - similar to Drummer. [REPORTED IN BUG TRACKER]
Memory - Release iPad Pros with 8+GB RAM.
AU Memory - Lift the barrier on the paltry Audio Units memory so we can use multiple AUs without crackling or crashing. [REPORTED IN BUG TRACKER]
Screen Sizes -
Why would it take a giant company like Apple over a decade to figure out optimal screen sizes for iPad?
7.9" mini, 9.7" Air, 10.2" Air, 10.5" Pro, 10.9" Air widescreen, 11" Pro widescreen, 12.9" Pro.
9.7" and 10.5" got axed and very likely, 11" Pro will get axed too. The 10.5" should have NEVER been released as it does not make much difference from 9.7" or 10.2". Similarly, 11" Pro does not make any difference from Air 10.9” and it should have been 11.5" or 12" as a median between Air and Pro.
Please release a 12" iPad Pro with widescreen, 8+GB RAM, extra Lightning port, Headphone Jack, bigger Battery, etc.
iPad mini - show some love for this pretty Little Wonder. Update its specs on par with other models and also release an iPad mini Pro in widescreen. So far, mini is the ONLY iPad for which you got its screen size optimally correct the first time!
GarageBand -
Add feature to export MIDI from all track types - Drummer, Smart Instruments, Beat Sequencer, Live Loops, etc. [REPORTED IN BUG TRACKER]
Here is an open source project that extracts MIDI out of GB projects -
https://www.mobilemusic.us/forum/app...or-gbextractor
DRUMMERS - Release this module as an AU for use in other host apps as a plug-in.
Add the score feature from GarageBand macOS with ability to import MIDI, display as score, edit score, export as MIDI and MusicXML. [REPORTED IN BUG TRACKER]
Animate keyboard, fretboard, drums, etc in GB in playback mode. [REPORTED IN BUG TRACKER]
Do NOT re-save projects just for opening them - save only when any changes are made. See BeatMaker 3, LumaFusion which work perfectly as expected. Re-saving projects messes up their Modified Date messing up sort order which is frustrating. Save project only when any changes are made. Simple as the age-old, expected behavior.
Display the current Project name in GarageBand Settings.
Alchemy - offer the full-blown version of Alchemy. Also, offer Alchemy as a standalone app and Audio Unit. [REPORTED IN BUG TRACKER]
Logic Pro X - Offer this on iPadOS. [REPORTED IN BUG TRACKER]
Final Cut Pro - Offer this on iPadOS. [REPORTED IN BUG TRACKER]

Roland FANTOM Flagship Workstation Synthesizer Keyboard
My article on Roland FANTOM - Updating my studio with Roland Fantom Workstation
Top Reasons to Buy the Roland Fantom! | Overview
4 partials per tone
Each partial has its own oscillator, filter, amplifier, envelopes, effects, 2 LFOs...
16 tones per scene (16 layered instruments simultaneously)
=> Each scene can have up to 64 oscillators and 128 LFOs!
(it has 4 chips to process and do all that heavy lifting without glitching or crackling - one chip dedicated entirely to V-Piano engine)
128 Scenes x 4 Banks => 512 scenes total
NOTE: Synthesizers have a meter reading showing when it is maxing out on memory. Well, Roland eliminated the meter from Fantom saying that it will never have the issue of maxing out on resources.
2GB internal memory to store our samples and tones.
Interactive large 7” touch-screen workstation

iPad Pro Buying Guide
Confused whether to go for 11" or 12.9" iPad Pro?
I bought both these sizes in 2018, used them for over a month and evaluated their usabilities. I wrote a detailed article comparing both editions here -
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/3...9-2018-dilemma
Hope this helps...
What do you guys think and what are your experiences with these sizes?
Cheers!
PS: Apple seems to be working on a 12" iPad Pro this year. If this is real, more work for developers again optimizing their apps -
